The Boeseman’s Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia lacustris), Found in a freshwater highland lake, Lake Kutubu, and the lake’s outlet; 136 miles (219 km) from the Gulf of Papua. The Lake Kutubu rainbowfish can be quite skittish and does far better when kept in a shoal of at least 6-8, preferably more. The males will also be encouraged to display their best colours in the company of conspecifics. Obviously, a suitably-sized aquarium would be required for a very large group.

They are very peaceful but can disturb smaller or slow-moving fish with its rapid movements and relatively large size. Good tankmates include other similarly-sized rainbowfish, characins, danios, barbs, freshwater gobies and catfish such as Corydoras.

Ideal water parameters, pH 7.0-8.8, temperature 68-76f

Feeding, Lake Kutubu rainbowfish are omnivores in the wild and are known to eat algae, small crustaceans and also marine pests. This diet plan needs to be recreated as very closely as possible in the residence fish tank, as well as this can be done though feeding them a high quality flake food, together with frozen foods as well as live foods.

We ship livestock on the following days only Mon, Tues, Wed and Thursdays. All orders are shipped next working day from purchase unless otherwise stated, if you want a preferred delivery date please contact us beforehand. Shipping is £28 for as many fish as you like up to 20kg UK mainland and parts of Scotland only for further details please contact us, we are more than happy to help.
